This new Matte Red colorway features a matte red finish, copper stamping, copper ferrule, and light gray eraser. It also features the “SOFT” graphite indicator stamp on the barrel. Ideal for musicians, woodworkers, and anyone who prefers a soft, dark line, the Blackwing Matte is the softest of the four basic Blackwing models.

Legendary Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer, and Academy Award winners have created their work with the Blackwing 602 pencil. Notable users include John Steinbeck, Looney Tunes creator Chuck Jones, and Disney animator Shamus Culhane, who, according to animation historian Charles Soloman, would like to be buried with his Blackwing 602.

The Blackwing’s roots date back to the 1930s when the 602 was first introduced by the Eberhard Faber Pencil Company. Over the years, the pencil with its unique rectangular eraser has become synonymous with quality. Then, in 1998, after several corporate acquisitions, it was discontinued, but not forgotten. Fans even started paying up to $40 on eBay for a single Blackwing pen.

In 2007, Palomino introduced the Palomino line of pens, which used genuine incense cedar and fine Japanese graphite. Artists and writers began comparing them to their beloved Blackwing 602s, and people began asking Palomino to consider reviving the Blackwing brand. In 2010, Palomino drew on over 100 years of experience in the family-run pen industry to relaunch the Blackwing pens. In the 10 years since its revival, Blackwing has grown from a single pen to a culture. A culture about living mindfully and finding balance in our fast-paced lives.

Each Blackwing pen has a timeless and distinctive look with its iconic design. It features a premium Japanese graphite tip crafted with clay for durability and wax for smoothness, and a body made of genuine incense-cedar wood from California and Oregon that sharpens evenly and easily. Its semi-hexagonal shape makes it easy to grip.

It is usually delivered to the cargo courier within 1-3 business days. Orders placed after 16:00 will be shipped the next day.
